I have known I wanted to be a photographer since I was 16. That was when I first went into a darkroom and saw magic. I wasn't sure how it worked but I knew I wanted to learn how to make magic like that.
I graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in Fine Art Photography in 1982. I am still living in Rochester after having lived in many different places as a child. I was born in Guam and then lived in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and New Jersey before I came to Rochester.
I became interested in trying to find a way to make my photographs more three-dimensional at about the same time I starting using family snapshots in my exploration of memory. Photographs capture a spilt
second in the life of those involved, be it the photographer or the subject(s) of the photograph and then family memories of that and other events grow up, around and through memories stimulated by the
photograph.
